password recovery disk will be very useful if you are using Windows XP. If at times you accidentally forgot your password then you can use the passowrd recovery disk to restore your password. The process is very simple. It takes very less time to create the disk. I have written the steps below.
If you’re running Windows XP Professional as a local user in a workgroup environment, you can create a password reset disk to log onto your computer when you forget your password. To create the disk:
1.Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click User Accounts.
2.Click your account name.
3.Under Related Tasks, click Prevent a forgotten password.
4.Follow the directions in the Forgotten Password Wizard to create a password reset disk.
5.Store the disk in a secure location, because anyone using it can access your local user account.

... or you can be on a domain using a domain account (and with the proper client workstations setup, you can control everything through the domain). I met a guy who swears by Windows Home Server for his home-wide entertainment. However, a backup is still preferred of the domain controller[s] (or at least a backup of the AD if you're using Windows 2K or newer). As kids go away for a semester or the summer, they forget their passwords so we reset it for them. (We meaning I, but I prefer not to think of this system as "mine" but rather "theirs" or maybe "ours" at the most. What they want is more important that what I want.)
